Japan 2010 - Kyoto (Day 1)

We reached Kyoto from Himeji around 10 to 10.30 am on the 5th day....had a bit of a hassle trying to find our hostel but we managed to get there and do the necessary check-in by 12 noon. After putting our bags and everything, we went off and had our lunch at Sato, a family restaurant not far off from our hostel.
[the lowlight: two of my hime sama...totally ignored the other hime sama - the one with painful feet. And that hime sama was dragging her feet and her bags...she told me that she's not used walking with shoes without heel...unfortunately, she did not heed our advise to wear a comfortable walking shoes... :( It was very frustrating for me. Feel like blowing my steam!!]

That aside, I tried to make the trips as best as I could.....here's the cute replicas of Astro Boy and Bambi in front of Kyoto Station.....^^

We took a bus to get to Gion....stopped a bit near Yasaka Shrine to snap a few pictures of the sakuras....it was beautiful.....

Everybody is gearing up for the sakura matsuri ^^ I like the colourful lanterns.....

Shijo Street, the main street at the Gion area....the colourful gate at the end there indicate the small street heading toward the Geisha area and Gion Theater....

Here's pictures of colourful sweet with various shapes sold at the shop in Gion....personnally I feel that the sweet taste the sama...i.e. sugarish...but the shapes and the colour can really be attractive to look at....I did not buy any here but I did buy some while at Himeji....

From Shijo Street, we turn to Hanamikoji Street....here's picture and we saw this guy riding this big motorcycle with 3 wheels...it was awesome and all the tourists were snapping pictures of his motorcycle....hahahaha.....just like a celebrity...not the guy but the motorcycle!

Finally we reached Shirakawa Canal ....it is beautiful....lots of people around but we still managed to snap a few nice shots....^^

The place look exactly shown in the internet but a little bit smaller....I expect it to be big but it just consist of 2 small streets...a wooden bridge...a canal (more like a big drain) that goes from one end to another....but a beautiful place nonetheless. For those going to Gion....its highly recommended...(but not for the weak feet or the shopholics....there's no mall mind you hahahaha :P)

A nice tree and decided to snap a picture ^^

There a few teahouse and cafe available along the canal........

Getting back to Shijo Street was not difficult....walked straight....cross a small street....there's about 100 meters walkway...with lots of sakura trees....^^.....once you get to the other end...you would basically see the river and Shijo bridge....

Here's my hime sama sitting with her weak feet....with the sakura trees at the background.....

There's a few stools with red umbrellas for those who wants to sit down and enjoy the scenery.... we actually take a rest there...while my sis keep snapping pictures of the trees, the kids playing and chasing the pigeons...a group of moms chit-chatting.....it was a nice environment...a relaxing ones...^^

From here, we continued towards Shijo Street and the bridge. As some of us wanted to buy tea at the shop that we went to on our last trip........we went back to Shijo Street (but the opposite side) and searched for the tea shop....here's I bought 2 kansashi hairpin, a sakura mochi and of course...japanese teas in very cute containers.....oh oh oh...not forgetting the tea candies....that I bought for my office mates ^^
The kanzashi shop......and the pictures taken outside the kansazhi shop.....utsukushii desyo ne ^^ wish I had lots of money so that I can buy lots....they are actually very expensive.

The souvenir shop .....I bought a few things here as well ^^

The shop entrance to the shop selling all types of yatsuhashi....all my hime sama tried all the various type....and the shop also provide hot or cold teas.....!

The mochi.....in all shapes and colours !

The tea shop that we went to......all of us bought quite a lots of teas, tea candies here !

After doing our shopping....we continued towards Shijo bridge...and nearly missed the Pontocho lane....I was expecting a street but it was just a small lane with shops at both sides.....

We stopped by one wood souvenirs shop and I bought 2 wooden spoons...^^

Out of Pontocho lane and faced with a bit of difficulty trying to make sense of the streets....there's no street signs!.....and my hime sama already making faces.....I think they were tired and cold.....and none of them were helping me in making sense of the streets....aaaaaa.....frustrating! Each one keep asking...is it still far from Musashi Sushi...how should I know...this is my first time here.....I haven't been here before.X(...the google map look easy...but once you get there, it's not as easy as that....

Trying to keep my cool...I went into one of kimono's shop...bought a haori and asked the shopkeeper direction to Musashi Sushi.....luckily we're not far away already.....a few more minutes walking and we reached the junction between Sanjo Street and Kawaramachi Street...and right at the traffic lights on the opposite side...there it is.....

We went in and had our sushi before getting back to our hostel for the night!

I think this Kyoto trip was the worst for me (especially day 6 - in my next posting or probably I skipped that one....don't really feel like racking up the bad memories again...well, I'll think about it and see how I feel tomorrow hahahaha).....felt like screaming and actually silently I was screaming "Yuu-chan, tatsukete!"....hahaha....luckily the beautiful views...the souvenirs and the people that I met at my hostel...gaves a little bit of comfort to my bleeding heart....hahahaha getting dramatic.....here is where I made promise to myself.....NEVER EVER GO ON WALKING EXPEDITION WITH PEOPLE WITH WEAK FEET AND SHOPHOLICS.........you not going to enjoy it....with their sour faces haunting every steps of the way........viewing nature or places with views should be done slowly (but with brisk pace) and enjoyably....^^
